Helping residents across Greater Manchester enjoy warmer homes through smart thermostat installations
Connolly was appointed by Salix Homes as sole contractor to carry out Switchee smart thermostat installations in approximately 2,500 homes across Salford and Greater Manchester.
Switchee installations took place in occupied houses, flats and bungalows in the M5 postcode. Our team carefully planned each visit to complete the installation safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption to residents.
- The brief : Connolly was appointed by Salix Homes to carry out Switchee smart thermostat installations in approximately 2,500 homes across Greater Manchester, helping residents manage their heating while providing better insight into property conditions and potential fuel poverty risks.
- The challenge : Gaining access to people’s homes to complete the works. Each appointment was managed sensitively to ensure we could tailor our approach where residents required additional support.
- The solution : Connolly worked closely with Salix Homes to identify no access barriers early on and provide alternative solutions such as key holding and flexible appointments. This ensured momentum of the programme whilst respecting individual residents.
Our scope of works included
- Existing thermostat removal, where required
- Switchee smart thermostat installation
- Boiler receiver unit installations
- Rewiring around smart thermostat where necessary
- Registering and testing the new Switchee smart thermostat
Connolly’s approach
Our directly employed NICEIC-certified electricians always carry a full van stock, enabling most installations and associated works to be completed Right First Time. Not only did this reduce the need for return appointments, but it minimised disruption for residents. This provided reassurance and confidence that each installation had been completed safely, efficiently and correctly.
The smart thermostats provide Salix Homes with live data on fuel poverty risks and allow intervention before risks to residents’ health and wellbeing arise.
The Switchee installations are being carried out to bring homes up to standard in-line with legislation such as the Building Safety Act and Awaab’s Law. The smart thermostats have built in sensors that are designed to track household habits, heating patterns and overall property health.
