2,000 homes per year made safer through electrical testing across the North West
Initially appointed to carry out 500 EICRs (Electrical Installation Condition Reports), Connolly’s strong performance and partnership approach resulted in our long-term appointment as Accent Housing’s electrical delivery partner, delivering up to 2,000 EICR tests per annum.
Working to make homes compliant and safer for residents, we have carried out various electrical works in Barrow-In-Furness, Stockport, Oldham, Burnley, Accrington, Preston, Blackburn, Clitheroe, Colne and Darwen.
Our directly employed NICEIC-certified electricians worked alongside our electrical partner, WBES, to complete approximately 16 EICRs and 25 smoke detector installations a week.
- The brief : Connolly was appointed by Accent Housing to carry out electrical works across 1,863 homes in a wide range of post codes across the north west. The project focused on carrying out electrical testing and upgrades to make homes safer for local people.
- The challenge : The main challenge was gaining access to people’s homes to carry out the works safely and effectively.
- The solution : Connolly worked closely with Accent Housing and residents to arrange visits by our team when it was most convenient for them. We also supported residents in clearing their homes where necessary so works could take place.
Our scope of works included
- EICRs, including same day C1 and C2 repairs
- Non-gas inspections
- Smoke detector installations (LD1 and LD2)
- Communal lighting upgrades
- Full electrical rewiring
Connolly’s approach
Electrical safety is about more than compliance. When carrying out electrical works and EICRs in people’s homes, we never leave a resident at risk. If our electricians see something that needs immediate attention when carrying out the inspection, we will undertake immediate C1 and C2 repairs to make sure that reports are completed to a ‘satisfactory’ level and everybody in the home is kept safe. Our electricians will also take extra measures, such as padlocking consumer units when carrying out testing, to make sure themselves and everyone in the household are protected.
Our electricians carry complete van stock to allow properties to be completed Right First Time, enabling most repairs to be completed during the first visit, reducing repeat visits, minimising disruption, and ensuring a smoother experience for residents and giving them confidence the job has been completed properly.
As part of the works to keep people’s homes up to standard, we have delivered fire safety improvements through LD1 and LD2 smoke detector installations. During a two-month period, we completed 1,155 smoke detector installations to 263 properties, helping to improve resident safety and produce greater reassurance to households.
Working across a range of property types, including houses and flats, we have:
- Installed 893 LD1 and LD2 smoke detectors
- Conducted 694 EICRs (including nine communal tests)
- Conducted 267 non-gas inspections
At Connolly, the person matters, which is just one reason why every home we visit should be comfortable having our team working there. That’s why, where needed, we provide full support to residents and help them clear their homes ready for works to begin. Where necessary, we will decant families into temporary accommodation so we can carry out the full electrical rewiring as efficiently as possible.
Delivering a positive customer experience is just as important as delivering technical compliance and providing an efficient delivery for Accent Housing. All certification is issued electronically within three days of testing by our full-time technical administrator, with 100% of certifications signed off by our qualified electrical supervisor.
