Making homes safer in Bolton through FRA works
Connolly is currently working with Be One Homes to conduct Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) works across a total of eight postcodes in the Bolton area. Working in both flats and communal areas throughout the borough, we are making people’s homes safer and compliant with latest legislation.
Works are being undertaken by our FIRAS-accredited team of joiners, alongside our site manager (Supervisor FIRAS certification), allowing us to sign off the works internally. This means that the replacement and inspection of fire doors element of the project is self-sufficient for FIRAS-certified timber and composite doors.
We are working side-by-side with our FRA partners Alpha Fire and Security and Fire Block Ltd to make homes safer and ensure everything is carried out to the correct standard.
- The brief : Connolly was appointed by Be One Homes to carry out Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) works in flats and communal areas across eight postcodes in Bolton.
- The challenge : Gaining access to people’s homes to complete the checks and upgrades that make properties safer.
- The solution : Connolly is working closely with Be One Homes to educate people on the importance of FRA works. Through written communication, phone calls and face-to-face visits, our customer team is working closely with residents to understand and eliminate any access barriers. Our qualified team are also attending customer events.
Our scope of
works included
- Fire door inspections (FDI)
- Emergency fire door installations
- Electrical safety systems (remote-managed door entry systems and automated gates)
- Fire stopping
- Ventilation
- Fire rated window installations
- Day to day repairs
- Fire safety notice boards
- Associated plastering and painting where required
Connolly’s approach
We are carrying out installations for FD30, FD60, and FD30S fire doors where appropriate, so that residents can rest assured their homes are safer from smoke and fire risks.
All works completed are correctly labelled with the product number, what the product is, when it was installed, and who installed it. This gives Be One Homes peace of mind that all fire stopping and fireproofing measures are done to the correct standards, keeping residents safe.
When it comes to ventilation, if gaining access to people’s homes is a problem, we will carry out an external survey of the property to determine whether there are immediate issues. This means that residents can remain undisturbed and we are still progressing towards the full works being carried out.
Social value
How volunteering days restored pride in Bolton communities
As part of our ongoing partnership with Be One Homes, the brilliant members of Team Connolly once again went above and beyond to leave a lasting impact on the community and make changes with and for local people.
With our team based in Bolton for the duration of the project, the fire risk assessment (FRA) works created two new jobs and made use of local labour. But we didn’t stop there. The lengthy timeframe gave us an excellent chance to make long-term changes and leave the community better than we found it.
As part of the government initiative Live Well Funding, we held a Breightmet Environmental Action Day and an Environmental Skip Day.
Alongside local people and Bolton at Home, Team Connolly worked hard to clean and clear community spaces. The action days restored pride in the local area, and the community spirit that carried the events helped tackle loneliness and isolation for those that live there.
To educate young people on employment opportunities, we held a Meet the Employer Event at Bolton College. Promoting the benefits of apprenticeship pathways to young people from disadvantaged areas, the event gave students the opportunity to talk with our apprentice electrician, assistant quantity surveyor, and assistant contracts manager.
Continuing to motivate and encourage young people, Connolly are also taking part in Construction Specialist Boards. Working with Bolton College, Bolton Council, and other housing providers, we are building local delivery partners to improve collaboration within the area.
