Transforming homes in Salford through whole house works
In 2026, Connolly was re-appointed by Salix Homes to carry out a range of whole house refit works to 61 homes across Salford.
This project was part of a wider investment programme which will see hundreds of homes and high-rise blocks will get new kitchens, bathrooms, windows, doors and upgraded electrical works. Heating upgrades are also planned for 1,200 properties, helping to create warmer, more energy-efficient homes that are cheaper to run and fit for the future.
- The brief : Connolly was appointed by Salix Homes to carry out whole house refit works across a total of 61 properties across Salford with maximum efficiency and minimal disruption.
- The challenge : Limited transport capacity within our kitchen supply chain caused risks to planned deliveries and the overall programme.
- The solution : We worked with the kitchen supplier and Salix Homes to arrange transport methods, protecting scheduled works and maintaining programme momentum.
Our scope of
works included
- Kitchen replacement works
- Bathroom replacement works
- Boiler and heating system upgrades, including radiators
- Smoke detector installations (LD2)
- Whole house rewiring
- HHSRS (Housing Health and Safety Rating System) repairs
Connolly’s approach
Our plumbers, plasterers, joiners, electricians, painters, floor layers, tilers and finishers all worked closely together. With several trades working in each home, careful coordination was essential in maintaining quality, minimising disruption and keeping the programme on track.
We worked with subcontractors LGH Plumbing and Heating Ltd to complete boiler and heating system upgrades, and 7 Electric Ltd to carry out full electrical rewiring and LD2 smoke detector installations. Both works brought properties up to standard, ensured compliance with current regulations (including the Building Safety Act 2022) and meant that residents remained safe and warm in their homes.
Achieving 98% resident satisfaction was supported by our flexible resident-focussed approach. Our customer team arranged key-holding and key-safe options, allowing people to carry on with their day, while our site team completed works safely and securely.
Social value
Employability sessions and resident interaction create new jobs across Salford
Volunteering, employability sessions and offering work experience are all ways that Connolly are collaborating with Salix Homes to give back to the communities of Salford.
Across two events, we supported Women in Construction campaigns. The functions were designed to break down barriers that women face when trying to find employment opportunities in the field. We also held a woman’s DIY session at Salford City College and supported a work experience programme.
When it came to volunteering and truly giving back to the people in the city that need it most, we volunteered and donated food and items for a local church.
Weaving our social value commitments into how we interact with residents on a daily basis is important for understanding what support they need and how we can best provide it. As part of our Salix Homes collaboration, our Customer Liaison Officers promoted the Dolly Parton Foundation and its benefits to families in need as part of their Getting To Know You surveys.
Over the festive period, we spread some Christmas cheer as we supported the Cash for Kids campaign, collecting and arranging toy donations so that no child would wake up on the big day without something to open.
