Creating modern kitchens and bathrooms that work for residents
Connolly was successfully appointed by Onward Homes to carry out kitchen and bathroom replacements in 305 properties across Greater Manchester. Working in occupied houses and flats in Whitefield, Bury, Prestwich and Ramsbottom, our team delivered modern spaces that met residents’ individual needs.
Our directly employed teams, including NICEIC-certified electricians, labourers, painters, floor layers, and joiners, worked alongside our trusted, local delivery partners LGH Plumbing and Heating Ltd and Liam Winstanley (plastering and tiling), coordinating works at each programme stage.
- The brief : Connolly was appointed by Onward Homes to carry out kitchen and bathroom installations in 305 properties across Greater Manchester, creating modern, practical spaces for residents to enjoy.
- The challenge : Issues within the kitchen supply chain, which included delayed materials, potentially leading to increased disruption for residents.
- The solution : Connolly worked with Onward Homes and the kitchen supplier to ensure correct, timely deliveries of stock. Where incorrect or delayed stock was an issue, our site team made any necessary adjustments to works, making sure we met installation project deadlines.
Our scope of works included
- Full kitchen or bathroom strip outs
- Installation of new kitchen or bathroom, including wetrooms
- Asbestos surveys
- Electrical rewiring, where needed
- Associated plumbing works
- Floor laying
- Painting and decorating
- Tiling and wetroom installations
- Plastering
Additional information
Where kitchens had adjoining utility rooms, these were also replaced. Never leaving residents without access to necessary facilities, Baby Belling appliances were used to make sure people were still able to prepare food. At the end of each day, washing machines were reconnected, meaning residents (particularly families and those who are vulnerable) had access once works finished for the day.
Many homes also had the toilet and sink in a separate room from the rest of the bathroom facilities. We worked with Onward and residents to make sure bathrooms met resident’s needs, replacing and installing standard bathrooms, shower trays and wetrooms accordingly.
Although the original scope of works included patch plastering where necessary, our site team carried out full skimming where residents had wallpaper, completing works to a consistent standard and making sure painting and decorating could be done correctly, ensuring the right end result was achieved.
Residents were supported through the process by our customer team. Working with kitchen designers, we helped residents understand what works involved and what options they could choose from such as colours and style choices.
Social value
Creating 4 new jobs while educating Greater Manchester
Connolly’s long-standing collaboration with Onward Homes allows us to make a difference across Greater Manchester.
Racking up an impressive 55 days of volunteering time so far, our brilliant team have been out and about in the local community spreading joy through fun days, offering employment opportunities and giving back through resident sessions.
In the spring, we held three digital inclusion sessions for residents at Mayburn Close. The workshops were led by our IT superstars and helped elderly people learn how to use the internet to book doctor’s appointments, order prescriptions and meals, and connect with family online.
Continuing community education and partnership, we held a Hate Has No Home Here engagement event designed to teach people how they can report hate crimes plus explain the support available surrounding them. Oldham Council, Stop Hate UK and Onward Homes were on hand to emphasise why reports are taken very seriously.
As well as community education, we are huge advocates for giving young people opportunities to advance in life. Through work experience, jobs fairs and employability workshops, we are bringing social mobility opportunities to the next generation.
