External works to improve 700 homes across Partington
Since 2024, Connolly has been working with Your Housing Group (YHG) to carry out external cyclical improvement works across 700 homes on the Partington estate in Manchester.
Thanks to our long-standing partnership with YHG, we were able to develop a bespoke mobilisation period of one month, allowing us to spend more time getting to know residents and understand their individual needs early on, ensuring support from day one.
- The brief : Connolly was appointed by Your Housing Group to carry out external cyclical maintenance works to 700 houses across Partington in Manchester.
- The challenge : Gaining access to the terraced homes to erect the scaffolding needed to do the works was a challenge, due to neighbour disputes, landlocked gardens and party wall access requirements.
- The solution : When scaffolding couldn’t be erected because of a neighbour’s wishes, Connolly found another route at the rear of the properties that our scaffolding partner could take, making sure the works were still carried out on time.
Our scope of
works included
- GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) porch and canopy replacements
- Roofing works (replacement of flat and pitched roofing)
- Window and door replacements
- External wall cladding
- Associated scaffolding works
Connolly’s approach
External works can be disruptive. We know that residents don’t want to be disturbed while they’re having tea or waking up for breakfast. That’s why our tailored, accelerated delivery programme means we’re spending less time in and around people’s homes while still delivering high-quality improvements that make it more comfortable for the people who live there.
Working with residents to understand and respond to their needs is at the heart of how we deliver throughout the programme. We have helped vulnerable residents remove unwanted belongings to provide access to our site team, carrying out garden clearances, including removing around 15ft of overgrowth outside properties.
Careful planning and communication have been key to maintaining programme momentum. To keep pace with project targets and milestones, we maintain a proactive approach to scaffold planning. Ensuring residents are informed at all stages, knowing what to expect, particularly where extensive access is required for roofing and GRP porch and canopy works.
Social value
Supporting young people through volunteering
Teaming up with Your Housing Group (YHG), we hosted and took part in a range of events to connect with the local community.
In March, we attended a career event at Broadoak High School, talking and engaging with students from a range of backgrounds. The event was a fantastic opportunity to educate the next generation on the work we do and show them opportunities for employment within the industry.
Over the summer months, we donated prizes for the new Lock 20 Foyer launch event. Based in Wigan, the supported housing scheme provides young people with safe accommodation and the support they need to build independent futures. Recognising the importance of helping young people thrive, Connolly couldn’t resist getting involved.
Helping people step into nature, we installed new and improved safety signs on the Redbrook Trail. A nature walk through the greenest parts of Greater Manchester, the recently regenerated path gives local people the perfect place to connect with the world around them and take a break from the stresses of everyday life.
