Three years, plenty of heart and a whole lot of fundraising: Celebrating our Wigan & Leigh Hospice Patron Award
Some charities are close to your heart because of the difference they make in your community. For Connolly, Wigan & Leigh Hospice is close to home in a much more personal way. We’ve heard countless stories from colleagues about the support the Hospice has given to people they love, from mums and dads to grandparents and family friends. When it came to choosing our charity to support, Wigan & Leigh Hospice felt like a natural choice.
For more than 40 years, Wigan & Leigh Hospice has been supporting people in our community living with life-limiting illnesses, providing specialist palliative and end-of-life care across the Wigan borough. But its care doesn’t stop with the person who is unwell, the Hospice also supports the families, carers and loved ones around them through some of life’s most difficult moments.
What started with coffee mornings and fundraising sessions in the office has grown into three years of Team Connolly getting stuck in, having a bit of fun and, most importantly, raising money to help the Hospice continue the incredible work it does for local families in our community.
And it’s safe to say we’ve certainly put the fun into fundraising…
From coffee and cake to 48 hours of darts
Last summer, we took things up a notch with our 48-hour Dartathon, bringing together 60+ members of Team Connolly, alongside family, friends, supply chain partners and some special sporting guests. It was a weekend full of laughs, healthy competition and, of course, hitting the bullseye. A couple of participants might have even given Warrington’s own Luke Littler a run for his money!
It’s safe to say, all those hours at the oche were worth it. We were absolutely made up to raise a whopping £12,117.25 for Wigan & Leigh Hospice.
And there was even more to celebrate. This summer, we were incredibly proud to receive the Wigan & Leigh Hospice Patron Award, recognising three years of fundraising, support and getting stuck in wherever we could.
Justine Maxwell, Corporate & Major Donor at Wigan & Leigh Hospice, shared her gratitude following this summer’s Dartathon:
You have been awarded a patron award for 25/26 for your wonderful fundraising efforts last year. The Dartathon you hosted last summer raised an amazing £12,117.25 and we are so grateful to all of you! Throughout the weekend, myself and Lindsey called down a couple of times, and it was such a great event. You are a lovely team with a lovely vibe.
Justine Maxwell, Wigan & Leigh Hospice
It’s a brilliant achievement, but for us, the award is really about the people behind it. And Justine’s message solidified that.
The colleagues who gave up their time. The families and friends who came along to support us. The people who picked up a set of darts and kept going through the night. And everyone who donated, cheered us on or helped make our fundraising events happen.
It’s a great example of what Team Connolly is all about, coming together, looking after our communities and using our time and energy to make a positive difference to people’s lives.
We’re incredibly proud to support Wigan & Leigh Hospice and hugely grateful for everything they do for families across our community.
Three years down, plenty of memories made and a lot of money raised, and we’re not quite ready to put the darts away just yet!
