Retrofit /decarbonisation

This page explains how to prepare for work being done that should bring your energy bills down, including treating condensation, loft or cavity wall insulation or having solar Pv panels or a heat pump installed.

What we’re going to be doing

Heat pumps

  • We’ll need to switch off your gas, electricity and water
  • We’ll remove your old boiler and radiators
  • Install your new heat pump outside
  • Fit new indoor hot water cylinder and pipes, plus new radiators if required
  • Set up your heating schedule and show you how to use the controls

Insulation

  • We’ll drill small 20mm holes into your walls from outside and then use a vacuum extraction system to clear out all the existing insulation
  • Clean and inspect the cavity
  • Blow in new high-quality microbead insulation using a flexible hose
  • Repoint the holes in the walls to match your brickwork

Keeping you safe

  • Keep children and pets away from where the work is being done

  • If we need to turn off your electricity or gas, please leave us to turn it back on again rather than trying to do it yourself.

  • Don’t touch tools and machinery

  • Keep your windows and doors closed to minimise dust settling inside your house.

Your checklist before we start

  • Your gas and electricity may be turned off for several hours so charge your devices beforehand and keep your fridge and freezer shut. Bear in mind you’ll have no heating, hot water, TV or internet during the day but electricity will be switched back on at the end of the day
  • Please ensure we can gain easy access to radiators by moving furniture out of the way
  • Remove any items from walls (pictures, clocks, shelves) if you having new wall insulation
  • Cover or remove soft furnishings to protect from dust
  • Pack away valuables and fragile items to avoid accidental damage
  • Arrange to meet with the site team to show you how your new heating works, as relevant
